Fall Mini Sessions 2016

The weekend is drawing near, but I’m sitting here begging for cooler temperatures to arrive in Alabama. It just doesn’t seem right to pull all the Fall decorations out, even though I did see a few leaves in the yard this week. And it looks like the leaves are already starting to change over thanks to this long dry spell we’re having.

With that being said, I’m announcing the dates for Fall Mini Sessions! You can email me at joyhsowell@me.com to book your session.

Can’t wait to see how much your families have grown this year!

Back to School | Kids

My littles will be heading back to Mother’s Day Out (MDO) and preschool soon. Our little buddy, Brayden, who was in Avery’s class last year will be attending a different preschool this year. So we got together to take some back to school pictures, and let the kids play one more time before school starts back.

My girls were not into taking pictures. Little bit was sleepy, and the other one just wanted to play. So, these aren’t the best, but at least we got two!

Clare & Kegan | Wedding

As I mentioned in my last post, I was able to snap a few pictures of the actual wedding for the bride and groom.

The wedding took place at Burritt on the Mountain. It was stunning. The view, the beauty — it was the perfect place to have a wedding! The colors that Clare and Kegan chose complimented the garden for the wedding, and the reception hall.

Before the wedding, I captured this little gem. Be still my heart!

We chose to sit on the back row in case the girls had a meltdown. Avery ended up sitting on the grass beside me so her view wasn’t blocked, and it was the perfect little spot for me to photograph some memories for the bride and groom.

We are so happy we could be at the wedding to celebrate your day.

Wedding Day Transformation | Wedding

Clare and Kegan tied the knot on a beautiful mountain overlooking Huntsville, Alabama. The day started off rainy and stormy, but God gave us a glorious evening for their outdoor wedding. We are part of the family, so they hired a Huntsville photographer to photograph the actual wedding.

The mother of the bride, Susan, asked me to come up early that morning to capture the getting ready stage of the wedding day. My crew came along so we wouldn’t have two vehicles two hours away from home. My girls LOVED watching everyone get their hair and makeup done by The Transformation (and getting to play with their cousin’s doll house and Clare’s “puppy” Lily).

Even though I wasn’t the main photographer, I still captured a little bit from their wedding. Stay tuned…

Spa One80 — Head Shots

Does anyone else think that going to a new stylist is like going on a first date?

Is he/she pretty?
Will y’all click?
Will I leave happy, or in tears?

A stylist is more than just a person who has shears in their hands. He/she will help you solve the worlds problems at the wash bowl. He/she will have your life story by the end of your appointment. And lets not forget that he/she has the power to change your look (in a good or bad way). At the end of that “first date” you know if y’all have chemistry.

And more than likely, if you click, you’ll end up being best friends for life.

Over a year ago, I had my last “first date” with my stylist, Krystle. If she or I ever move away, I’d still travel every six weeks to have her work her magic. I’ve followed her as she found her new home away from home at Spa One80. I’ve even gotten to know her fellow teammates, and have grown to love them as well.

They’ve been in their new location for a few months now. Everything is so chic. They’ve built their team, and they are rocking it! They are a full service salon/spa including hair, nails, facials, and massage. We decided once they got settled in that we’d set a time for head shots, and yesterday was that day.

Are you ready to meet the faces behind Spa One80? Be sure to check out their Facebook page every day for the next ten days to learn more about each person on their team.

Thanks for a great session, y’all!

Darrick Williams | Welcome Home

It will be two years in October that we met Amiee and Darrick in small group. We even attended their wedding a year and a half ago. When we got the news that Darrick was going to be deployed, our hearts went out to them. Not even married for a year, and they would be separated for six months.

Our small group family has been praying for Darrick as he was away, and we’ve tried our best to be a huge support system for Amiee. It ended up being a little over six months, but this morning they were reunited!

Amiee, thanks for allowing me to be there to capture the reunion! We love y’all and are so happy to have Darrick back safe and sound.

Here are a few of my favorites. Enjoy!

Lenley Parker | O N E

It’s hard to believe, but our littlest love has turned ONE! That year went by waaaay too fast! A couple of days before her birthday I took her smash cake photos. Needless say it was first for me, and for her. And I couldn’t have asked for a better “first!”

Enjoy viewing a few of my favorites from her watermelon themed smash cake session.

Amberly & Daryel | Engaged

We traveled to Mississippi last weekend for Amberly and Daryel’s engagement session. The entire day it looked like rain. I kept praying it would hold off, and it did.

Clarke County, Mississippi is where I grew up, so it was great to be back “home” in the country to capture this sweet time for Amberly and Daryel. We went to several old stomping grounds in Enterprise for some fun shots.

These two love birds were so much fun. They were up for just about anything (thank you Daryel) which made for some awesome photographs. It won’t be long and October will be here.

The Wards | Family

Wade, Robin and Sammy (as Terry likes to call him) have been friends of ours going on two years now. We met them at church and are in small group together. Wade (and Robin) are actually the leaders of our small group. An all around sweet and compassionate family that we are proud to know.

We had a cookout at our home Memorial Day, and while the grill was going it was the perfect time to take some family pictures for them.

IMG_0025IMG_0027We’ve been holding a secret. A secret that when we were told, we almost fell out of our chairs.

IMG_0001Sweet Sammy doesn’t look too happy about the TWINS that are coming in December to make this family a party of five!!

IMG_0003IMG_0011IMG_0013IMG_0016IMG_0020IMG_0022We can’t wait to welcome their new additions after Thanksgiving this year.
